Overview

"The Canyon of the Golden Winged Snakes Car" is the 7th episode of Season 3 of Infinity Train and the 27th episode overall. It aired on August 20, 2020.

Synopsis[]

The gang finds themselves in a car full of golden winged snakes, but in that dusty landscape a mystery they're unprepared for awaits them.

Plot[]

"Every passenger is important. Their well-being and progress is what the train is all about. All aboard the growth train, toot toot, whee. Sincerely, your Conductor, One..." (turns card over.) "...One."

Amelia Hughes

Amelia explains she is scanning the train cars for code that do not match the reality of the car, and accuses the gang of doing something to the car. When she reveals she was sent by One-One to fix a glitch in the train, Simon throws his accusation of One-One being a false conductor and trying to kill them. Amelia scoffs, claiming passengers are just numbers to One-One before reading aloud a welcome message from him. She takes off her coat to reveal her impossibly high number while explaining that some of the cars have a corrupted code that she has been using a pulse to scan for: three weeks ago the pulse started causing the train to "eject" these cars, so she is tracking down the cause of the problem. Simon realizes Amelia is the number cluster he saw on his tracker: they mistook her for the Apex because of how high it was.

Amelia starts questioning them about things that didn't match the environments in the ejected cars, including phone booths, college campuses, and an absurd amount of turtles. Realizing the code Amelia has been tracking is Hazel, Grace turns down Simon's suggestion to work with Amelia on her number by bringing up the Apex code prohibiting the trusting of adults and they flee. Amelia gives chase but is stopped by the flying snakes, and warns them that the car is marked for ejection.

The group camps in a nearby grotto. Simon tries to take Grace's glove off so he can check her number, only for Grace to resist and Hazel to angrily push him away. Grace accuses Simon of making the situation about him before ordering him to stand watch. Hazel, making a connection between Simon's violence and the death of Tuba, throws a tantrum claiming she can fight him off, causing her to start to transform and leading Grace to calm her down.

A suspicious Simon leaves the group and returns to the Cat's car, where he demands she tell him what is wrong with Grace's number, claiming she owes him after leaving him to a Ghom when he was ten. The Cat protests that she did not intentionally leave him as she only realized he wasn't behind her when she got to the next car, but sadly concedes she never came back for him afterwards when Simon brings it up. Simon tells her about his frustrations with Grace's low number, also bringing up Amelia and her work with One-One, asking if she is trustworthy: the Cat immediately tells Simon that Amelia is dangerous and is not to be trusted. She tries to explain Grace's number is supposed to go down, but Simon refuses to believe this, claiming Grace is not acting the way she should be acting. After Simon calls her by the name he once knew her as, "Samantha," the Cat opens a safe hidden in her cabin and gives Simon a device that will allow him to view Grace's memories and tells him it can be also be used to trap people within their memories.

Right before Simon leaves, the Cat warns that it is not always right to see what's in the memories of the people we love, but Simon rejects this, claiming he's not a child anymore and knows what he's doing. Once he is out of earshot, the Cat remarks he has no idea.

Trivia[]

  • End tag: Simon, Hazel, Amelia, and Grace's hands, against a background of the grotto the group camped out in.
  • Chrome Canyon reuses the motif from "Running Away" in this episode's soundtrack during the first scene with Amelia.
  • As shown in this episode, Hazel has the ability to grow a plastron on her torso.
  • Simon's talk with the cat is the only time in the series, he ever questioned any of the Apex's beliefs as he states he was unsure if running away from Amelia was the right decision, despite her working with One-One and the Apex's stance on grownups.

Continuity[]

  • Lake was previously seen walking through the Canyon of the Golden Winged Snakes Car in "The Black Market Car."
  • Amelia is responsible for the pulse that ejects cars, as seen in "The Musical Car" and "The Color Clock Car."
  • The Cat and Simon were separated when they were attacked by a Ghom, as previously related in "Le Chat Chalet Car." The Cat failed to realize Simon wasn't with her until she reached the next car, and didn't go back for him.
  • The Cat does not trust Amelia after their prior encounters, noting she has tried to kill her a few times (as seen in "The Cat's Car" and "The Ball Pit Car").
  • It is revealed the Cat is known as "Samantha" to Simon.
