Nigel is a bouncer residing in the Astro Queue Car. He is a single parent with a family of fourteen.[1]
Nigel does not speak, only communicating through beeps and changing lights in his visor.
History[]
Book Four - Duet[]
"The Astro Queue Car"[]
Nigel is guarding the entrance to the club of the Astro Queue Car. While he gently pushes Ryan Akagi away when he tries to talk him into letting them in, he rejects another denizen, crushes them into a cube, and throws him into a pile of other crushed victims. Ryan and Min-Gi Park, with the help of Kez, manage to get him to let him in by pretending to be fellow denizens and a band.
"The Mega Maze Car"[]
Nigel was apparently fired from his job as a bouncer due to Kez, Ryan and Min-Gi's antics. This puts him in trouble due to needing to support his fourteen kids without a spouse (which is a bit confusing given the nature of the denizens). He joins the group of denizens out for revenge on the trio. He blocks them from entering Morgan, but they manage to outsmart him by reminding him they're the band. His bouncer instincts kick in and he lets them in, only to realize too late he was tricked.
"The Train to Nowhere"[]
While the other denizens were sitting by a campfire, Nigel stayed by the gate near Morgan's entrance. Morgan decided to let him and the others in as she was upset with the trio. However, Kez apologizes, and the denizens realize that acknowledging their wrongs and apologizing feels good. Nigel apologizes to one of the Parka Denizens, but she, who apparently can understand what he's saying, says that she should be sorry for whatever he is apologizing for, saying he's a wonderful father. In response, Nigel hugs her rather tightly, then he leaves with others now on better terms with Kez.
Trivia[]
- Alex Horab refers to Nigel as a "happy accident": Ryan and Min-Gi needed a physical obstacle in the car, and couldn't let him speak because Ryan and Min-Gi needed to talk between themselves.[2]
- Out of all the antagonist denizens who went after Kez, Nigel is the only one who didn't have a previous conflict with her before she met Ryan and Min-Gi.
