Overview

Travel friends, brought together by the sheer majesty of an incredible superpowered deer and...

—Jesse, singing to Lake and Alan Dracula.

Jesse Cosay is the deuteragonist of Infinity Train Book Two. He was a passenger on the Infinity Train who went on the train after him and his friends hurt his brother, Nate. On the train, he met Alan Dracula and Lake, where they explored the Train together and became friends.

As of "The Mall Car," Jesse goes back to the door leading to Arizona after the number on his hand goes down to zero, but shows sadness when Lake is unable to come with him. He tries to go back to the train but the door was too strong. He eventually gets back to the Train since he still has unresolved problems with bringing back Lake. Lake eventually gets her number and alongside Jesse, they both take the portal door to Arizona.

Appearance[]

Jesse Cosay (HD)

Jesse is a teenager of Native American descent with brown hair in a layered mullet haircut, thick eyebrows, and an olive complexion. He wears a blue letterman jacket with yellow sleeves over a white crewneck T-shirt with a red rib. The letterman has a yellow "A" on his front left side and his name embroidered on the front right. On his left sleeve is a circular patch of a pictogram person swimming in a body of water during sunrise. The patch uses the colors of the Arizona state flag. The back of his jacket has the word "Pupfish". Jesse also wears gray pants and his sneakers are light field green and white. Jesse is considered handsome for his age as confirmed by The Cat of all characters.

Personality[]

Jesse is a quirky, kind-hearted teen who claims to be friends with every clique in school, especially the ones that aren't familiar. He does his best to be friends with everyone and to resolve issues. He is shown to be annoyingly funny.

He can be a pushover, and be pressured into doing things that he doesn't want to do, like the butterfly stroke on the swim team. He gradually becomes less of a pushover and starts having his own independence and assertion.

Early Life[]

Jesse was born as the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Cosay. He claimed he was friends with everyone in his school. He eventually got on his school’s swim team and was pressured into swimming the butterfly. When his team made state, he did not go because he was forced to sit it out due to not needing someone skilled with the butterfly.

One day, Jesse and his brother Nate were hanging out with Jesse’s friends when they had his brother go through a “man test” that involved sliding down a steep hill on an old, wheeled box. He edged his brother on despite the boy’s nervousness and he got hurt and cried. When Nate runs away, Jesse yells at him not to tell their mother.

On the Train[]

Soon after that incident, he boarded the Infinity Train, where he was given the number 31 and dropped off in the Hill Car.

Legacy[]

Like most of the Infinity Train protagonists, Jesse Cosay left an impact on the train after he and Lake got their exits. He was only known passenger to not only be able to return to the train after already getting his exit, but also have One-One stuck in a loop. Additionally, it was shown that he taught the denizens of the Musical Car a song he sang in elementary school, "When I Look at You, I See Me".

Trivia[]

  • He is the first named male passenger to star as a protagonist in the series.
  • Jesse is the first passenger in series order to never encounter a Ghom. He's the third passenger if you count by series timeline.
  • As confirmed by One-One, Jesse is the first ever passenger to get a second memory tape with memories of his experiences on the train. Grace can be considered the second even though her second memory tape was never finished.
  • The inspiration behind Jesse's passion for swimming comes from writer Alex Horab.[2]
  • Storyboard artist Jacob Winkler once said Jesse is "a really experiential person". This explains why he does certain things like smelling his hands in "The Family Tree Car" and knows what old pennies taste like.[3][4]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • During the planning stages for Book 2, Jesse's name was "Miles", but it was later changed when the crew decided there were too many movies and TV shows featuring a character with the same name.[5]
  • Jesse is canonically of Native American (or Indigenous American) descent. More specifically, he is Apache, with his last name of Cosay being a common surname given to Apaches on the White Mountain Reservation.[6][7] Jesse's voice actor, Robbie Daymond, is also part-Apache. The only reference to Jesse's background occurs in the episode "The Lucky Cat Car", where he mentions going to pow wow at the county fair with his family every year.
    • Jesse's identity was largely censored by Cartoon Network: executives initially refused to let series creator Owen Dennis introduce a character of indigenous descent, claiming it was too "hard". It took Dennis seven months, along with the hiring of cultural advisor Ian Skorodin,[8] to convince the network, and even then the crew was given the restriction that they could make no references to his heritage. The aforementioned pow wow reference occurred thanks to some maneuvering on Dennis' part: he had Robbie Daymond say the line during the recording of Book 4's "The Old West Car" and slipped it into "The Lucky Cat Car" during post-production.[9]
